Journalist and author Jessica Rowe knows ‘first hand’ about the impact that mental illness can have on a family. Jessica grew up with a mum who has experienced bipolar disorder.
Jessica’s helpful books
Jessica co-wrote a book with her Mum, Penelope about living with mental illness as she was growing up. “The best of times, the Worst of times: Our family’s journey with Bipoloar” is written from the perspective of both mother and daughter as they discuss coping with Bipolar, and how the support of family and friends helped them survive.
In 2011 Jessica released a second book after experiencing postnatal depression: “Love, Wisdom, Motherhood: Conversations with inspirational women.” She says: “As I found out myself, postnatal depression can affect anyone – it was totally unexpected. The faster it’s picked up, the faster you can get help and recover. It’s fantastic to think that all mums will now be screened for PND.”
